In 2011 Lumacoustics brought their unique brand of visual delights to Coachella Festival - a three-day live music and arts event set in the scorching hot Californian desert. Wrigley's promoted the new 5 Gum at the festival with their own venue that housed a range of interactive and immersive installations provided by Lumacoustics. To quite literally start from the top, the entire ceiling of the venue was covered with mapped, real-time generated visuals. The absorbing and mesmerising visuals were projected onto the space by 7 x Christie projectors - all seamlessly blended. We worked with one of our favorite generative artists Desaxismundi to provide the real-time content running at 7 x 720p resolutions at 60fps! This gave a really smooth animation that constantly morphed and developed over time without repeating itself. Next, the Lumacoustics R&D team unveiled their latest innovation - a so-called 'motion mirror'. Designed using real-time motion tracking technology, the sensor in the 'mirror' tracks and records the outlines and movement of people in front of it. They are then instantly displayed on a large screen facing the user. The Lumacoustics system allows users to create their own movie with augmented reality backgrounds using their moving 'mirror' images. The finished videos could then be shared by uploading them to Facebook and YouTube. Last but by no means least, two fully Coachella/5Gum custom branded YrWall Digital Graffiti Walls enabled users to create unique mementos of the festival to share with their friends via email and Facebook.
